New York stunt school opens its doors Notme

There's a new stunt school for the daredevils from the Big Apple. Bob Cotter, a veteran of stunting with 13 years of activity will open this fall his "Hollywood Stunts" in Bronx. One of the seventeen instructors from the school founded by Cotter, Teel James Glen said: "I'm usually the big goon going, 'Hey you can't go down there.' And then I get knocked down the stairs or set on fire."Cotter spent four years in looking for right space and getting the right insurance, and now he finally fulfilled his dream.Going to classes at the stunt school you'll be offered how to jump from a 40-foot-tall building, be set on fire or get hurled through a glass window. These classes come at a price tag of $800 for a four-day course or $2,800 for the full three-week session."I've been doing this for 30 years, and it's still the most fun you can have with your clothes on," Glenn said. "I get to be the superhero part of the hero."The classes are available to children aged 10 to 17 that can take eight week course to learn skills such as tumbling, trampoline, falls, and bungee pulls."There is a lot of interest in stunt work and it's not only for stunt people; it's also for people who want to do theme park shows and people that just want a challenge for themselves, to fight their fears," said Cotter.

Standard qualification is declining
by Claudia Sonea

This year As results made teachers gasp in contempt. The 25.3 per cent of pupils that were awarded A grades reveals a year-on-year improvement. However, the critics sniff and say that it is not due to hard work and quality teaching, but to the decline of standard qualification. Schools minister Jim Knight stated the exact opposite and said that quality teaching and strong investment made everything possible. He added that the system reveals an increased number of people getting good advanced qualifications and that there will be a vital reform in the 14-19 education. As a challenge for the brighter students the A* grade will be introduced and on his list there are new projects, diplomas and a new curriculum. Liberal Democrat schools spokesman Stephen Williams was harsh with the critics and said that it is not appropriate to talk about the exams' difficulty while students are receiving their results; although a debate on this subject will take place. Claiming that prestigious science departments of universities are closing because of the lack of students, the spokesman pointed out that the present situation is harmful for the country's interests. The director of the Joint Council for Qualifications reveals that the results are the evidence of students' hard work and that everyone got the mark they deserved. The Examinations and Assessment chief executive of Ulster, North Ireland, was totally agreeing the directors view. In Wales took place an improvement too. No matter of other opinions, the students did great and they have to celebrate. If the examinations will be changed in the future, it will be great, but that won't minimize the results. A problem should not be how qualified they get inside universities, but what they are doing there.

One teacher sees Wikipedia as a new place for students to make their ideas known
by Corina Ciubotaru

Those of us who are still in college or have recently ended it know how painful and boring it is to do a paper at the end of each semester, turn it in at the last minute and see nobody actually cares about it. Luckily, there are professors like Martha Groom, from the University of Washington-Bothell, who has assigned kids in two classes to post articles on Wikipedia as their project for their environmental and ecology class. They found information regarding globalization and the environment and posted them on the Web, learning first-hand what it feels like to write an objective piece of material and have rights over it. Some of their work was deleted by Wikipedia editors, but most students believed this experience was new, interesting and helpful. It kept them motivated and this is very rare among students nowadays, and it represents a different view from that of most teachers, who disagree with the use of Wikipedia as a source for information used in school papers. The information is believed to be inaccurate and scarce in some areas, so using it as research material probably isn't the best idea, but encouraging students to write valuable material there is probably going to make the online encyclopedia more useful and meaningful for all of us. The idea is for teachers to give kids information and tools that they can use in later life and since most of them see these papers as something that teachers require just to have something to grade, bold initiatives like Mrs. Groom's may be the first steps toward a better education system.

College proves too expensive for many young Americans
by Corina Ciubotaru

In today's society, a college diploma may very well mean the difference between a life in poverty and a secure future. But as university fees increase at a massive rate, more and more students need to borrow money to pay for their education, which could spell disaster once again for America's economy. Just as too many mortgages led to the collapse of the housing market, student loans are involved in the securities market and are becoming harder to pay every year. As loans get higher, former students have to find better-paying jobs that would enable them to give the loan back and also cover monthly expenses for bills and food. And according to a new law, lenders won't be given as much federal money anymore, so they won't be able to keep borrowers' discounts high; it's the government's way of reducing tuitions. Also the Pell Grant for low-income families has increased its amount, but from the lending companies' point of view, the area that will suffer the biggest cuts will contain the federal consolidation loans, which bring the smallest revenues. Federal consolidation loans allow the borrower to combine all his loans into one large sum, thereby paying them all at once. In the last 10 years, tuitions in public colleges have increased by 79 percent, while in private schools they went up by 65 percent, while total student loans issued increased from $4 billion to $17 billion in the last six years. And if the situation continues and eventually backfires, there will be far less kids attending college in the United States.

Studying at Yale University means a lot. It means prestige, rareness, professional education and opportunity to become whatever you want. Yale University is like a gate. Huge, decorated and history emblazoned gate into the world you choose. There are no limits when you have a Master from Yale. Everything change once you get into the school campus and open your book for the first time. It is like a whole space has just concentrated into one little point right on the spot you are standing on.A dream University is not for free of course what put limits for students from middle class or basically for everyone who can not afford paying tuition, room and board at Yale. The campus is the place where all smart people wants to go and if they do not have money for attending such a school, they try at least come and walk on the grass of legendary educational Mekka. The fact that school cost are not achievable for everyone who deserves to study here is well-known in the academic society as well as around the world. A movement for better college access and success put together some of schools already, now if Yale and Harvard join them, there is a possibility to get the Yale education for more students from non-wealthy families. Yale official already announced boosts in financial aid what will cut the average cost more than in half for families in financial need! The only thing we need now is the sound of winning drums to celebrate all the genius kids who will change the history of The Yale University.

UK gives more to dyslexic"s childrenle
by Romana Schlesingerova

Children with dyslexia are to receive extra help in some schools in England under a £3m pilot scheme. The government says half of pupils in 10 areas will be given catch-up reading lessons or one-to-one help from dyslexia specialists. The scheme will be rolled out across England if it is successful. Dyslexia charities are also being given grants. Schools Secretary Ed Balls said a lack of understanding had previously branded intelligent young people as backward. "In the past a grave lack of understanding about dyslexia left some highly intelligent young people branded as 'backwards' simply because they had some difficulties in reading or articulating themselves through writing," he said. "Those days are largely gone, but there are still some old stigmas around and still not enough widespread understanding of dyslexia and support for the individuals who experience it. "This condition should not hinder young people's education and life chances. Sadly, it all too often does. We need to be better at identifying pupils with dyslexia and then supporting them."The measures being announced would give parents and teachers more information, would help to identify pupils with dyslexia and assess the impact of support from specialist teachers, he said. Pupils who receive help under the scheme will not need to have been given a statement of special needs - a process which can take considerable time and effort. Parents sometimes complain that extra help is not readily available for their children unless they have been formally identified as having special educational needs. The government has also announced it is giving £250,000 to Dyslexia Action over three years so it can expand pilots it already runs under the Partnership for Literacy scheme to another 10 schools.
